From Intern to Associate: Climbing the Solution Engineer Ladder in One Year

One year at Ematic Solutions took me from intern to Junior Solution Engineer to Associate on Salesforce Marketing Cloud for Chanel and Under Armour. Here is what each step actually looked like.

Starting as an intern

I joined Ematic Solutions as an intern with more enthusiasm than experience. The first months were cloud pages: building, testing, and learning how enterprise marketing teams actually move.

What changed at Junior

I stopped doing tasks and started owning pieces. EDMs, journeys, Data Extensions, backend API integrations. I also started running validation and technical security assessments on campaign builds before go-live, which taught me to think like the person who signs off the release.

Associate: owning the full solution

Now I run solution engineering on Salesforce Marketing Cloud for Chanel and Under Armour, end to end. The jump was not about knowing more tools. It was about being accountable for the whole thing: design, build, test, document, ship.

What actually moves you up

  • Own delivery, not tickets. The person who makes sure it ships is the person who gets trusted.
  • Document everything. Your future self and your team will thank you.
  • Ask the security question early, not the week before go-live.
  • Learn the business context. A cloud page is easy. Knowing why the campaign needs it is the job.

The short version

Intern learns the tools. Junior owns the pieces. Associate owns the outcome. Decide which level you are operating at, then act like the next one.
